Of Blogging, Privacy and Self-Obsession
Talking about oneself on the blog smacks of self-obsession? I just read this remark on a friend's blog. If so, then I must be the most self-obsessed individual around! Muahahahaha :)
But seriously. The other day I was on my uncle's car on the way to work and my aunt was ranting about the strangeness of young people's mentality these days. Why do you put up your innermost thoughts on a public domain??? Where is the idea of privacy in this techno age...blah blah. So I came out of my shell and told them about the many purposes that people use the blog for. Like how some people use it as a place for advertisement for marketing purposes, highlighting certain cause that they truly care about etc.
Regarding personal blogs, I somehow doubt people put up their deepest, darkest facade up in the public domain. Most of my friends do some degree of self-censorship and many of their so-called "personal" postings are couched in vague languages so as not to let those they don't consider close know what they actually mean. Yours truly am "guilty" of the same.
Some become so disturbed by the eroding privacy of their personal blogs that they choose to go "private". Which is something perfectly understandable, especially for those who work in the "dark" side hahaha :) Another reason to resist joining.
As for myself, I did have some thoughts about going "private" before. But after thinking about it, I think it is good to keep my blog accessible, especially for the purpose of keeping in contact. As I mentioned in previous posting, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that some people do read my blog to find out how I am doing and according to them, they like what I write. (I think I churn out the most self-obsessed stuff, but if it keeps the readership, why not....muahahahaha)
Just another self-obsession before logging off: I just adore my new pair of shoes from Mitj at Far East Plaza...so pretty and comfy!
