Model for the Day

I helped my colleague's fren be her model for her make-up exam on Saturday. As those who know me are aware, I like dressing up, but when it comes to skin care and make up, I am probably one of the most lazy and clueless. I still believe in letting the skin breathe; hardly ever see people who put make up on a daily basis with good skin anyway.

But back to the exam. It was a new experience for me to have a whole layer of make up piled onto me. Even "natural" is not as natural as it may seem. I am strangely reminded of my graduation studio shot, when my face was caked with powder, cheeks all rouged and eyes drawn to look like Balinese dancer. This time, I actually made believe I was Sayuri from Memoirs of A Geisha.

Strangely, despite my aversion, I liked the next look, the "dramatic" look. With layers of loud colours and later on, fitted with false eyelashes that resembled peacock feathers. It felt a bit strange to feel heavy whenever you blinked but overall the effect was nicely done. The glue took a lot to come out though...another happy point to feel blessed with naturally long eyelashes.

Despite the legong dancer-like effect of liquid eyeliner, I still like pencil eyeliners for special events. And after the stint, I went to Arab Street to get the Egyptian eyeliner that my colleague always uses. Found a cream version too and since they are dirt cheap (just $4.50) for 3 (1 pencil and 2 creams), I bought both types. It is at this shop called Vasiruth Mohamed just besides the famous Zam Zam restaurant and opposite Sultan Mosque. Walking there on saturday afternoon made me realise how lively Arab Street is! One should check out the stylish boutiques there as well as the shops selling stuff like leather bags and cloths.
